A Program Outline for Grade 1 (Age 6–7) focuses on building basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics while keeping learning fun and interactive. It helps children develop simple language and number understanding, along with creativity and social skills through activities like games, drawing, and storytelling. The goal is to create a strong foundation and encourage a love for learning.

A. Guiding Philosophy for Grade 1

Grade 1 is the entry point to the Preparatory Stage. The focus is on a smooth transition from play-based learning to structured academics. Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) are the primary goals, alongside developing the ability to work in a group and follow instructions. 

B. Assessment Structure for Grade 1

  • Terms Exam.
  • Components:

Periodic Assessment (PA): Oral tests, quizzes, and activities.

Summative Assessment (SA): Written tests.

  • Grading: 5-point grading scale (A-E).

Engineering: Build a “shape house” with 2D cutouts and count the shapes used.

Environmental Studies (EVS)

Myself: Body parts, senses, family.
Living World: Plants, animals, their homes.
Our Needs: Food, water, shelter.

Science (Core): Observe the life cycle of a plant. Sink/float experiments.
Tech: Use a camera to document a nature walk.
Engineering: Build a model animal shelter.

Computer Science

Basics: Parts of a computer (monitor, CPU, mouse).
Usage: Using a mouse to click and drag.

Tech: Practice mouse skills with educational games.
Engineering: Understand that computers follow our commands (algorithms).

Art

Skills: Drawing, coloring, pattern making, collage.

Design: Create patterns using stamps or vegetables.
